This adorable collection is one that is very close to my heart and it is dedicated to my beautiful daughter, better known as Miss E on my facebook page, who was born prematurely at just 25 weeks. She is truely a miracle as all Premmie’s are.
The Premmie Journey Teddy is a beautiful idea to memorise your babies NICU journey by putting your babies gear on the teddy for display. It comes as a standard Precious Purls size teddy in yellow, with the premmie awareness ribbon on the back so that it doesnt take away from or get in the way of your babies gear.
OR, you can choose to order the teddy in your babies approx weight and length so that you can cuddle your teddy and remember how your tiny baby felt laying on your chest.
Please note: the gear on the teddy photographed is an example using my daughters NICU gear. The teddy does not come with gear, it is for you to add your own. I will make your teddy as close as possible to your babies weight and length, there may be very slight variations.
These teddies are hand knitted and sewn to order. They take me up to 2 weeks to make so please order with plenty of time if they are a gift. They are made with acrylic and polyester as i am allergic to wool.
The national colour for prematurity is purple and the Premmie Awareness Teddy couldn’t be more purple if I tried! In the NICU, many loved ones want to get their tiny babies a teddy but teddies cant go in the incubator or bed with the baby for safety reasons. So instead, if the NICU have the place to do so, they will sometimes let loved ones hang a teddy on a hook out of the way. The Premmie Awareness Teddy is perfect all round as it is the premmie colour, it is small like a premmie baby and easy to keep out of the way in NICU, and it has a loop at the back so it can be hung up. The loop can be removed later when teddy is a toy or, it can be left on if it is to be memorabilia.
These little teddies are hand knitted and sewn to order. They usually take me 3-4 days to make. They are made with acrylic and polyester as i am allergic to wool.
Premmie Teddies come with care instructions as with all Precious Purls teddies so they will live their best life.
The little NICU Bonding Teddy Patches are used in the NICU to keep Mum and Baby feeling close to each other even when they are forced to be apart.
One of the first things babies develop is smell, and the first smell is of course Mum, so Mum wears these patches next to her breast for 24 hours so they absorb her scent. She can then leave it in the incubator so baby is calmed by her smell. It can also be placed over baby’s head to keep out the light and calm baby when they are sleeping. How clever?! (Photographed above is my daughter with the bonding patch her Auntie made for her).
But even better, it also works the other way around! Mum usually has two patches so she can swap them. When Mum swaps the patches, she can then smell baby and feel close too. And this also helps her with breast milk supply. Baby’s smell is a big part of helping Mum produce milk, so these patches can help her to pump more while she is not with her baby.
The power of smell and of love can do so much!
And so, these little NICU Bonding Teddies come in packs of two so Mum and baby can feel close to each other all the time.
These patches helped me personally so much and im so happy to be able to do that for other NICU Mummies!
They are made from 100% cotton for a more comfortable skin feel for both Mum and sensitive Baby’s skin, to better absorb smell, and to make them easier to clean after use.
Due to being hand made, all bears and patches may have slight variations so every one is unique. Colour pattern may also vary slightly as the colour/pattern on the yarn is not always exactly the same.
One in 10 babies or 26,000 babies around Australia alone are born premature. It is my goal to try to help save as many of them as possible 💜
I will be donating $5 from every Premmie Teddy and $2 from every NICU Bonding Teddy Patch in this collection sold, to raise funds for the life saving equipment these miracle babies need to survive and have the best quality of life possible.
Warning: It is not recommended for children to sleep with a teddy until they are at least 18 months corrected age.
The Premmie Journey Teddy made to birth weight is quite expensive and more challenging to make, and has a much larger shipping cost. This is reflected in the cost of the teddy bear.
